Where talent lies
Teaching, says my wife, is my best gift. She usually says this after a sermon of mine.
A friend some years back told me, after listening to a lesson of mine, that writing was my talent.
So I get the feeling that my talent is what I’m not doing right then. :)
Seriously, the Lord has given me several gifts. I seek to use them for his honor. The ego would snatch them for its own glory. But the Lord knows how to knock the ego down to size.
Teaching and writing, then, with a bit of editing and some encouraging thrown in. Glory to God!

I’ve really agonized over this nudge all morning. What I’ve written I haven’t posted because it just feels like it’s too much information. I do like what you’ve done here, brother. Especialy the last three words. I’m just a little uncomfortable in relating this the way I’d like to.

John, I understand, I think, what you’re saying, and I share that reluctance, if I’m reading you right. It’s a healthy thing. I like what Ron wrote about humility. When we recognize that our talents are gifts from God, there’s no place for pride. Gratitude for God’s gifts includes “counting our blessings,” a part of which are those abilities he’s entrusted to us for the progress of the gospel. Paul could say with all modesty, “I think I have the Spirit of God.” No brag, just thanksgiving.

I’ve never posted here before, so If I’m not following protocol, let me know. I like the question, “what is my best talent” or something to that effect.
I like to think of myself as a people person, being in the middle of a discussion or leading it for that matter, surrounded by like mined folks or even those that are not quite in the same field with the topic at hand. I don’t like to argue, but I do like to discuss and persuade. So, maybe I’m good at teaching. I like to think, given the chance, I’d be pretty good a preaching the word. I also think I’m pretty good at “service” type missions, like raking the yard of a retired lady or helping clean out the fence row. My wife says I need to be more service oriented toward my own home! It’s work at home, it’s service at the widows house…ha.
God bless us everyone.
