Salvation and the Economy
I would like your thoughts on a comment someone made to me. They said, basically, “since the economy has nothing to do with our salvation, why give it any thought?”
What is your response? Also, looking at the bigger picture, what effect does a bad economy have on the Church and evangelism?

Would that person not give his job any thought, either?

Richard, the bad economy may not have any effect on our salvation (we who are already Christians), but it will have a great impact on evangelism and other good works funded by the Lord’s church. Less funds will be available for mission efforts and missionaries, plus church budgets and schools of preaching will more than likely be effected as well.

At the same time, people are generally more open to the gospel when times are hard. When they have everything they need physically, they tend to not think they need God. The opportunities to teach should increase during these rough times, and we need to keep our eyes and ears open and be ready to walk through the doors as they open.
