Mexican preacher threatened
Carol Short in Ohio sent me this on Facebook:
Received this from our church secretary. Please share this with others, prayers needed for these folks in Mexico: Juan Martinez, a minister in Mexico supported by the Nederland Church of Christ (in the Beaumont area) has requested our prayers. His family must come up with 50,000 pesos, or they all will be murdered. He is not asking for money, just prayers for him and his family’s protection.
Does anybody have any more information? There was no date or other info on this.

It has been ongoing for a few weeks. He has been getting threats from the Zatas (sp?)-it is one of the roughest groups in Mexico from what I understand. To begin with he was not going to pay the extortion fee as it is difficult to deal with crooks, but since then I believe another minister’s wife has been killed by this group. From what I heard many times they will go after the female leader of the family so he is fearful for the life of his wife and has decided to try to raise the money (mostly on his own I think) in order to pay the extortion fee.
We send a large amount of spanish literature into Mexico. Mainly for ministers/Christians to use as resources in preaching and teaching and helping in resources to use in local churches. Juan is one of the main cogs in getting the information further into Mexico from what I understand. We send it across through one resource and he gets it pretty early and helps get it into the postal system. We just sent our shipment of resources across the border so we are hopeful he is able to help this go smoothly even though this threat is going on right now.
This is the information I currently have.
