What makes someone a hero? Retired naval officer Charles Coughlin of Severna Park, Maryland was rewarded this moniker after helping rescue fellow workers following the 9/11 terrorist attack of the Pentagon. However, he was recently sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison for defrauding the 9/11 victim’s fund. He had received $331 thousand from the fund, claiming he had injured his head rescuing others. However, the injury was preexisting and he was not hurt during the rescue; thus the fraud. On the spur of the moment, many will act selflessly, but given time to dwell on the temptation to act selfishly, they act quite the contrary. The honor of being called a hero should be reserved for those who consistently demonstrate selfless sacrifice for the good of others. This is Just-a-Minute with Ed Boggess
