1 Kings 4
- This chapter addresses the organizational structure of Solomon’s government (4:1-19). Also addressed is the amount of supplies required for Solomon’s government from the people (4:22-25). Solomon’s might exceeded many (4:20-21; 26-28), but that which stood out above all was his wisdom (4:29-34).
- Application: A person can have all the material blessing this world can provide, but at the end of the day what does he have if all he has is material possessions? He might think he has much, but what will that “much” get him? Will he be satisfied with it when he is sick, when the joy of his children moves out of the house, when he has reached the pinnacle of positions within his work environment – exactly what will he have? A good many people speak about greater things in life than possessions, and that which they generally say is correct. But the greatest thing in life is a relationship with the Lord. “…since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1, NET). How can one improve upon this?
