Just returned yesterday from the Little Egypt Campground in Dahlgren, IL. On Monday and to the lunch hour on Wednesday gathered men from various locations (Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois) for a time of edification and fellowship. It was a great time. Plans for next year are underway.
I used one of my weeks of vacation this past week to punish myself. I tore 2000 sq ft (2 layers thick) of shingles off my roof, cleaned the decking, & put down new drip edge and synthetic felt (which is durable and will allow me to take my time over the next month or so to actually put the new shingles on). 52 hours of hard labor in the heat has taken its toll. I tried to pay my brother to help but he was too busy, so I went solo up top (with a good cleanup crew on the ground–my sons & wife–for whatever didn’t quite make it into the grain truck). There is only one motivation to do a roof job yourself–save money! I will save about $4500 for my labor when I’m done. Jolly good! Of course, the down side–if it ever leaks I’ll know exactly who to blame! :)
I’m really looking forward to the next several days. I’ll be attending the retreat in Dahlgren with my friend & new preacher, Richard Reinhardt. Several old friends (i.e., men I’ve been friends with a long time–LOL) will also be there. As the mind gets fed from the book of Daniel, the body should heal (if I don’t play too much shuffleboard that is!).

Some what late in a making an entry; Gary Knuckles finishing up his presentation. He spoke on challenges to the restoration plea. This was his second lesson, both were great. Jody Apple also spoke, and is soon to speak again. His lesson on denominationalism was exceptional. John Vaughan gave us good words on the rewards and challenges to a long-term ministry in one location. The afternoon schedule will be finished by Tom Holland, and then the evening will be capped by Tom Childress.
CBI is a preacher’s retreat in Columbia, TN. This is the 13th year the Graymere church has put this together via Tom Holland and the late William Woodson. As is always the case it is great.
Please say hello to John Vaughan for me. We attended Graymere while I worked at the Daily Herald between preaching jobs. Give him my regards, please Ron.

News flash: I just got back from Dahlgren, IL after spending about 30 hours at the 3rd Annual Southern IL Preachers’ Retreat. There were about a dozen or so who were there (from IL, MO, & TN–oh yes, and Brazil!).
It was a pleasure to see Randal again and fellowship with some good brothers. The theme for our lessons & discussions was the Holy Spirit. My only regret is only being able to be there for about half of the program.
Shuffleboard is good. Unfortunately, it is expected to be rather warm.
